Home to Naval Station Norfolk — the world's largest naval station, with 80,000+ personnel and dependents. Norfolk has 144 miles of shoreline and some of the oldest residential housing stock in Hampton Roads. Portsmouth is the most affordable market in Hampton Roads but the  trade-off is older housing stock, particularly in Churchland and Cradock, where mid-century homes still have original garage door hardware that is well past its design life. Rushmere is a small, quiet community tucked along the James River in northern Isle of Wight County. It's the kind of neighborhood where homes sit on large lots with long driveways, detached garages are common, and residents have often lived in the same house for 20 or 30 years.

That kind of tenure means garage door systems that were installed once and haven't been touched since. We see a lot of original hardware in this part of the county — springs that are well past their rated cycle life, openers from the early 2000s, cables that have never been lubricated.
